Stackhouse 2015 Napa Valley Cabernet
The Stackhouse mission is built on creating wines that celebrate the good life. For this to work, the wines obviously must be good. This is never an issue for the married winemaking team of Anna and Mario Monticelli, whose transcendent Stack House label has the uncanny ability to evoke smiles and banish stress the moment it’s pulled from a collection. This follow up to the duo’s 2013 critically acclaimed Cab Sauv highlights how deeply in tune they are with Napa landscape, as they cull perfect grapes from All-Star AVAs like St. Helena, Oakville, and Oak Knoll to produce a powerful, vivacious vixen that sensually teases complex layers of rich opulence. Aggressive bursts of cherry, blackberry, raspberry liqueur, and black currant flourish on the nose. The fruity core gracefully unravels on the palate, revealing sumptuous, balanced notes of spice, toasty oak, and crushed rock. Voluptuous tannins lead to a lengthy finish coddled by coos of vanilla. This exquisite label landed on Parker’s top trio of 2016 value wines, an endorsement that’s bound to launch this bottle off the shelf with breakneck speed.
